Exhibition

Water is at the centre of our existence. It shapes our environment, materials and products we live with. This multidisciplinary exhibition brings together a group of designers exploring the theme through experimental new work. A series of events will provide context to expand on the core exhibition.

Water is an exhibition that brings together a diverse group of designers to explore one of the most important materials on Earth.

Water fundamentally shapes our environment, materials and products we live with. It is the reason why the concrete on our buildings, the wood in our tables, and the plastics in our devices exist. It is used to define units of measurement in science, such as the litre and the kilogram. It can generate energy by moving enormous propellers with its immense force. It can alter geography in the form of tsunamis, glaciers, rivers and monsoons. Its properties are studied to find ways to clean our oceans. Its absence can create turmoil, being a scarce resource for most countries.

The designers will create products, materials, installations, and experiments that incorporate, exploit, or examine water. They come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines including product, graphics, and technology. A series of events will provide commentary to the exhibition and invite the public to reflect on this essential but often overlooked material.

Water will take place in the Copeland Gallery, a disused warehouse in Peckham. The venue is at the heart of the Bussey Building, a vibrant community of designers, artists and local businesses.
