Bjørn Wiinblad - the Danish maximalist

In the 1960’s while many Danish designers were focused on clean lines and function following form, there was Bjørn Wiinblad (1918-2006), a versatile artist whose ambition was to delight and entertain people with his art; he was a true design-maximalist.

For the London Design Festival, Skandium Brompton road welcomes you to the wonderful and whimsical world of Bjørn Wiinblad. With a celebration on the life and work of the Danish maxilmalist designer, Bjørn Wiinblad.

Join us for the opening night: 22nd September, 6.30pm - 9.30pm.

With one part in the past and the other in the future, Bjorn Wiinblad Denmark, revived in the autumn of 2014, aims to write new chapters in the story of the charismatic artist’s story by reinterpreting his designs into functional design pieces for the modern day, full of Wiinblad’s legendary joie de vivre.

“It can never be the quantity of a thing that is wrong – it can only be the quality. I put just as much thought, just as many deliberations, and just as great zeal into doing the right thing in my work when I make wrapping paper as I do when I create a decoration for the Royal Ballet.” Bjørn Wiinblad, 1998

In the 1960’s while many Danish designers were focused on clean lines and function following form, there was Bjørn Wiinblad (1918-2006), a versatile artist whose ambition and purpose was to delight, entertain and inspire people with his art; a true design-maximalist. For this year’s London Design Festival, Skandium proudly champions Wiinblad’s work and legacy, whose highly characteristic homeware has been revived and adapted for modern-day living.

Alongside an instillation of Bjørn Wiinblad, the collection will be available to purchase online and in store during the London Design Festival and beyond exclusively to Skandium.
