A programme of product launches, talks and experiences that celebrate the relationship between people and objects. Presenting a new product made in collaboration with Jasper Morrison and Penguin Books, designs from the SCP 2017 Collection and the first showing of the new SCP Boxed Collection.

At the London Design Festival 2017, SCP are dedicating all three floors of their Curtain Road headquarters to a celebration of the relationship between people and objects, with a programme of product launches, talks and experiences to enjoy.

SCP x Penguin x Jasper Morrison

SCP are pleased to announce a new product collaboration with Penguin Books and Jasper Morrison. Working with the Penguin Modern Classics imprint, SCP are developing a product with Jasper Morrison that will make a new home for books. SCP are working with Penguin Books to create a programme of events that will celebrate both reading and the aesthetic pursuits. Further details on this collaboration to follow.

SCP 2017 Collection

Following their worldwide launch at ICFF in New York in May, SCP present three new designs for 2017 at the LDF. They are a new sofa system by Matthew Hilton, an upholstered cocktail chair by Philippe Malouin, and a bone china collection of chandeliers by Reiko Kaneko.

Miles by Matthew Hilton
With comfort and adaptability in mind, long time SCP collaborator Matthew Hilton has created the Miles sofa system. A modular design that allows for numerous seating configurations, it is distinguished by details such as the stitched in line that runs around the seat and arm cushions.

Group by Philippe Malouin
A designer new to SCP, Philippe Malouin has created the Group chair, a charming compact upholstered cocktail chair that revolves on a swivel base. The design uses primary shapes in a particularly concise way; to form the base, back and seat.

Yumi by Reiko Kaneko
Reiko Kaneko is a designer who has established a reputation as one of the leading ceramicists in Britain. Her creative gifts have been used in the design of a chandelier collection called Yumi. Elegant in conception and execution, it is made from clear and gold anodised aluminium tubes, machined components and dappled bone china light shades, which are made in Stoke on Trent.

SCP 2017 Boxed Collection

SCP present the first new designs for the Boxed Collection, a range of imaginative products that reflect the changing world around us. First launched in 2009, the premise for the Boxed Collection is simple, SCP invite designers to create new designs that can fit into a box that you can leave a store with under you arm. This can be anything from small accessories, to chairs or table lamps, or even new product typologies. The designers are asked to consider the changing nature of the home or workplace, and to consider the relationship between people and objects. For 2017, a number of new Boxed Collection designs are launching during the LDF, with others launching incrementally over the next year. SCP has invited both current and new designers to work on the brief. Full details of designers launching products at the LDF will be announced closer to the event.

SCP Events Programme and The Shoreditch Design Triangle

During the LDF, SCP are hosting an events programme at the Curtain Road Headquarter that includes press previews, talks, product experiences and the Shoreditch Design Triangle opening party. SCP are responsible for the organisation of the Shoreditch Design Triangle, an independent cultural event that celebrates the creative industry in East London. With over 50 events each year, visitors can expect a blend of product launches, exhibitions, installations, workshops, talks, tours and culinary delights; the event gives people the opportunity to spend the day wandering around the East End on foot and still not see everything there is to see.

SCP has been at the forefront of the British furniture industry for thirty years, playing an integral part in the development of two generations of designers. SCP has created an expansive range of beautiful contemporary furniture, whilst also providing a platform for young designers to bloom, many of whom have become internationally renowned talents in their own right. Rather presciently, SCP founder Sheridan Coakley summoned up the restrained modernist principles of form and function in the midst of 1980s Britain. The formula worked and SCP provided an oasis of calm in a decade of overtly gregarious design and chintzy styling. SCP has consistently sought out the most talented and dynamic designers to work with, designers who shape their generation. Launching designs from illustrious names such as Jasper Morrison, Matthew Hilton, Konstantin Grcic, James Irvine, Robin Day, Michael Marriott, Rachel Whiteread and Terence Woodgate. More recently SCP has been working with emerging talents such as Donna Wilson, Reiko Kaneko, Fort Standard, Lucy Kurrein and Faudet-Harrison. Genuine talent, pioneering spirit, competence and the importance of the brief have always been at the heart of what SCP stands for. SCP produces award winning and instantly recognisable designs, from full-blown contemporary classics such as Matthew Hilton’s Balzac armchair to lesser-known gems such as the Side chair by Jasper Morrison. Each year SCP develops a new range of furniture, balancing a dedication to traditional furniture making methods with the assimilation of advanced production techniques. SCP is a manufacturer, retailer, wholesaler and industry collaborator, free to efficiently manage the design process from conception to completion. SCP eschews transience, wilfully conspires against fashion, and is intent on producing design for use, as effortlessly beautiful as it is practical.
